Home Buyer's Checklist

If you are buying a home, you will need to go through a process before you take possession.

ATB has provided a checklist of what needs to happen in the time between you making an (accepted) offer and moving into your new home:

  • Make a conditional or unconditional offer
  • Get a real estate lawyer
  • Get final mortgage approval (conventional or insured)
  • Transfer the deposit to show that you’re serious about the place
  • Get a property appraisal
  • Transfer the rest of the down payment to the seller and take possession
  • Receive final approval and send documents to the lawyer
  • Get a home inspection
  • Buy title insurance through the lawyer

We would like to introduce you to Tor Potter, Associate Lawyer at Kiriak Law.

Tor joined Kiriak Law in July 2020, after articling at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. He graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 2019 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2020. Prior to attending law school, Tor completed his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Ottawa. He maintains a practice in several areas of law including civil litigation, family, wills and estates, and real estate.

He is skilled at assessing his client’s legal situation and developing strategies to address their needs and protect their interests.
